Laufen quality dates back to 1892 when The Laufen Group founded its first production company in Laufen, Switzerland. The company's reputation for superior craftsmanship grew along with its international presence. Laufen's presence in the U.S. began with the acquisition of International American Ceramics in 1985. Since that time, Laufen has manufactured quality tile designed for the U.S. market. Laufen distributes its tile and its sister company Incepa's tile in the U.S. through hundreds of distributors and its own Laufen International Distribution Centers. In 1995, Laufen increased its role in the tile market with the acquisition of United States Ceramic Tile (USCT).
In September of 1999, Laufen Ceramic Tile was acquired by the Roca Group, the leading Spanish bathroom manufacturer based in Barcelona, Spain. The combined Roca-Laufen group is the second largest sanitaryware manufacturer in the world. Additionally, the acquisition created the fifth largest ceramic tile manufacturer in the world with ceramic tile factories in the USA, Spain, Brazil and Peru. In 1999, more than 500 million square feet of tile was sold throughout the world. "Laufen USA has had tremendous growth in the '90s," said the CEO of Laufen USA. "The acquisition by Roca will fuel the growth in the U.S. operations and further enhance our position as a market leader in the U.S. ceramic tile industry for the 21st century."
Laufen USA pioneered the design and production of coordinated floor, wall and decorative tile among domestic ceramic tile manufacturers. Throughout its expansive ceramic tile offering, Laufen USA continues to bring together its heritage of beautiful styling with its reputation for quality American craftsmanship.
